WB-SIM 172 Classic enhancement Working Title GNS530?
-
Currently the WB-SIM 172 is using a built-in PMS50 version of the GNS530. I think at the time it was a good choice but now that WT is advancing the default GNS530 to a new level it might be time to use the WT version of the 530/430, or is there still a good reason to use the PMS50?
Since the PMS50 is built-in it won't be automatically start using the WT version, or can we change that ourselves?

If you know your way around the MSFS file structure it's as simple as changing a few lines of text to force the WB-Sim units to call the default MSFS GPS units. I refer to them as the default units because once you install the new Working Title units from the marketplace the Working Title GPS units become the default MSFS 530/430 units. I can post the instructions if you like? I'll leave this here in case there is anyone who can use it:
This is exactly the same for each plane variant be it float, no pants, skis and classic. You'll find the panel.cfg files in the folders in this directory:
Community\wbsim-aircraft-c172sp-classic\SimObjects\Airplanes
[VCockpit05] size_mm = 350,190 pixel_size = 350,190 texture = $AS430_Screen htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/AS430/AS430.html, 0, 0, 350,190 [VCockpit06] size_mm = 320,234 pixel_size = 320,234 texture = $AS530_Screen htmlgauge00=NavSystems/GPS/AS530/AS530.html, 0, 0, 320,234

@jockoflocko Fair warning, doing this will cause other systems in the plane to stop working correctly, or completely.

@weptburrito What systems are tied into the GPS units directly? I looked all through the file structures and there's nothing in the GPS other than the customization files... None of the model behavior defs call the GPS, it's all standard coding to create systems and system failures... I'll see how they fly over the next day or so, but for the last four hours they've all worked great.
-
Been using the WT units now for about 10 hours worth of flying and I've seen absolutely zero issues with the planes systems functionality or stability. That said, the new WT units are much more accurate when it comes to making precision turns, arrivals, departures and approaches. They are also much more akin to the Garmin GNS 530/430 WAAS trainers that were offered by RealityXP just a few years ago.

@jockoflocko I just did your panel.cfg edits, the WT GPS now renders on the unit screens. However the PUSH C/V knobs and OBS 1/2 gauges do not work. You are unable to dial new comm/nav frequencies, and the needles on Nav1/2 do not move at all.
Are you aware, and how to fix this?
Thank you!
*Edit, I should mention this is SU11 and Aircraft and Avionics update BETA.

Check out the WB-SIM Discord for the latest news about using the WT GNS530 with the WB-SIM C172.
There you will now find a MOD that allows the WT GNS530 to interface and run with the WB-SIM C172.

@n6722c Unfortunately your link does´nt work. Can you please send a new link or describe how to allow WT530 to work in WB-SIM 172?
Thanks a lot, Frank :-)
PS: Or do anybody know, if the WB-SIM 172 will get an new update soon, to solve the issue with the new WT GNS coming with AAU? -
@allard Hi "Allard" thanks for you reply! I have no PMS50 installed...
But i now found the solution: On the WB Sim Discord Server (https://discord.com/invite/CBKKkvNjQ5) a new patch can be found (since 31.01.2023):
I "installed" the file "wbsim-aircraft-c172sp-classic-WT530.zip" from WB Sim Discord Server: Now WT GNS530 was working in my WB-SIM 172 🙂 🙂 Communication via Com1 worked too. And the RNP LPV approach to Runway 25 of Mengen (EDTM) worked too! The CDI (horizontally and vertically) of the ASPEN (bought from "Airmanager") worked too while LPV (!!) approach!
