Still have a few weeks Kaspersky subscription left on my old computer, so will change that over and see how it goes. I've never had Bullguard before but got it on recommendation of the company who custom built the computer. Thanks for replies.

This could be your Antivirus application or Chrome itself. Couple of things to try:

            • Check the quarantine section of your Antivirus application, if it blocked the download you should be able to restore the file from the quarantine. Most AV programs will allow you to do this but you may need to check the relevant documentation for details on how to do it, if it gets quarantined again after restoring you may need to add an exception for the file.

            • If the file doesn't show in your AV quarantine, it could be Chrome that is blocking the download. After downloading the file in Chrome hit CTRL+J to open the downloads list, you should see the download and may have the option to "Keep" the file.

            • If you can't "Keep" the file in Chrome you may want to check your Safe Browsing settings in Chrome. In Chrome under Settings > Privacy and Security > Security you have the option for Enhanced, Standard and Off for Safe Browsing. I was able to download the file under Standard without it being blocked so if you are on Enhanced maybe try dropping to Standard to see if that helps. Once you've downloaded the file you can always set the option back to Enhanced.

Bullguard now uninstalled on my pc and Kaspersky installed instead. This has not resolved the problem. I tried to download again with both Kaspersky and Windows AV disabled, but download was still blocked. I did however successfully download and install Just Flight PA-31 Navajo and Baron 58 today.

I also downloaded the Majestic dash 8-400 file onto my old pc, which also has OS Windows 10, and everything was ok.

I'm wondering why Derek has removed the part of his post regarding Bullguard...where he advised removing the program asap?

I have checked the Quarantine section in Kaspersky Antivirus and there is nothing there. I do not have Chrome, I use Microsoft Edge.

A big "Thank You" to Simon for solving the problem, which was due to Microsoft Edge blocking the file, and not opening the Smart Screen option to "Run anyway". One of Simon's possible solutions suggested using another browser. In this instance I used Firefox, and the process went without issue.
                  Kind regards

I edited those posts since it wasn't entirely factual. Antivirus applications are a bit of a minefield, plenty of opinions and personal preferences, so rather than us making recommendations users should do their research and pick the one best for them.

Windows 10 does include a built-in antivirus solution called Defender, on previous versions of Windows it was ranked quite low in independent testing but Microsoft have greatly improved over the years and now it is a good out of the box solution. That said it may not offer all the features that some vendors have in their software, and so you may wish to use BullGuard, BitDefender, Kaspersky, Norton, etc... if you want/need more than MIcrosoft Defender offers.

It's good to hear that you've resolved the problem. If you do wish to continue to use Microsoft Edge you can enable/disable SmartScreen in Edge -> Settings -> Privacy and services, under Services you should see "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen" that you can toggle on and off as required.
