Airbrake not working
-
Having read the manual I have tried everything to get the airbrake working. The First time I went through the check list the airbrake light was on (White hash) and wouldn't extinguish. After re-loading the light wouldn't come on and I have never seen the airbrakes appear when I've pressed all the right buttons and switches in accordance with the manual. Obviously I'm either missing something or pressing wrong buttons and would appreciate any help/advice

Yes I was aware that it operates by degrees. However, from your comment I think you've answered my problem. I'll set the keyboard to operate the airbrake, which will probably fix my issue. Should have tried that, if I had thought about it. Thank you very much for your help.

Airbrake usage requires Aircraft 200 v AC supply before they can work.
Airbrake operation def needs looking into...in respect of ....
the switch below the throttles is only a two position switch, should be 3 position...the high drag position actually needs a button to be pressed mid switch gang before the lowest switch position - high drag can be selected.
Currently, using command 'speedbrake toggle' does allow a hardware switch to be used for 3 position airbrake operation, but this doesn't move the 'in cockpit' airbrake gang switch.
The defined Thranda commands appears to be thranda/switches/ SwithUp130 and thranda/switches/SwitchDn130 when you hover over the in cockpit switch withXP 11 'show instrument descriptions'. No such commands are available in the list offered to set up switch operation in XP 11. However, settings/joystick button/switch configurations, but use of thranda/switches/switch130 does allow two stage up down configuration, and also manipulates the 'in cockpit' airbrake gang switch. -
Nothing here seems to have been fixed in Vulcan v1.1.
To add to the above knowledge...
The air brake switches below the throttle quadrant are three position switches relating to air brake operation positions of 'retracted', 'medium drag' and 'high drag', although the high drag position has another variable depending on whether the 'undercarriaage' is extended, or not.The Air Brake positions are.....
a) Retracted
b) Medium Drag 35°
c) High Drag 55°
d) High drag (U/C down) 80° -
@McTrying and if you look at the outside view that is exactly what you get IF you assign either a key or a button to extend and retract the airbrakes by increments using the default key commands.
The problem is with the VC switch, nothing else. Apologies for not catching that during testing, but as with the real aircraft it's a bind looking down there to find the switch so generally done by feel, which is much easier (i.e. I have been using an assigned switch on my throttle!)
Hopefully we'll sort the switch soon, but for now the airbrakes themselves do work correctly.
Cheers,
Paul. -

Paul. This is not completely true...If you look closely.... using an assigned switch on my throttle set to 'Speedbrake toggle'..position a, b, and c are correct, but not 'd'...which the brakes should depict given I am doing the Pre-flight checks on the ground with u/c down.
Given the product description for this plane says...
Quote ' - Multi-position airbrakes (accurately linked to landing gear position)'
I still believe something is remiss. :winking_face_with_tongue: :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: -
@McTrying I'm not on the coding side of things, in fact this is my first time doing anything in X-Plane! The full airbrake setup was discussed in detail, and there was definitely an issue which couldn't be overcome in the timeframe available but that was specifically the fact that the airbrakes should remain at 80 if the gear is retracted until such point as they are selected to medium and then a re-selection of full would give 55. I think the 'full' selection between 55 and 80 is more directly tied to the gear than in real life, unfortunately!
There is definitely a further extension when airborne if the brakes are already at 55, I'm in work at the moment so cannot check further but will run through it all again when I get back (in the early hours!)
Point on the actual lever noted (will probably be a useful fix for those with VR!)
Paul.
