best flight simulator, any advise please
-
Hi, I have been away for a while from FS. Is there a better flight sim out now the one I have is FSX
-
Yep. FS9. Still the smoothest, best looking and best performing sim out there. I have FSX with ORBX sceneries etc and spend 100% in FS9. I'll only go back to FSX when the Classic 747 comes out.

Blurries and stutters and same washed out cartoon graphics in P3D as FSX is the 'latest tech and systems'?
The iFLy 737/747 is as good as it gets and is available for FS9. The Aerowinx King Air - still one of the best turboprops available - is FS9. Until the Classic 747 is released, the benchmark was the RFP 747 (FS9). (I'm beta testing a classic 741/742 for FS9 right now. Will be interesting to compare the Just Flight with it. )P3d still got some catching up to do.

Washed out cartoon graphics? Are we talking about the same platforms here?
I think this is what the young people call 'trolling'. Best not to rise to it. Trying to compare a 16 yr old sim with recent, 64-bit, PBR-supporting software is obviously a wind up.

Current kids on the block are P3D, FSX Steam Edition and X-Plane 11. More left of field are Aerofly 2 and DCS.
It depends what sort of flying you do and the quality of your PC, but if you have been away for a while, FSX Steam is probably a good place to start.

Not trolling. I have FSX with ORBX, FLy Tampa airports, REX textures, PMDG add-ons, and STILL prefer FS9 by a long margin. It was the last of the tue flight simulators with correct contrast, ground colours etc as opposed to the cartoon, washed out plastic fantastic visuals that became FSX and FSX version 2 (P3D).
P3D isn't recent. Shows you how much you've been fooled. Same old engine as the rest still CPU bound and performing no better.
Hopefully JF get the classic right. Already some major concern to the realism depending on what JT9D is fitted to the -100.
The premier 747 classic available in any platform I have in a beta version for FS9. Here's hoping JF can at least match it : -

It has been in development ever since it was licensed from MS. If you don't like modern computer games graphics, then that's fine, but it is rubbish to suggest that FS2004 (which was FS2002 with better clouds) is in any objective way better than modern sims. The OP was asking what sim to buy and recommending something that's 16 years old and is no longer on sale doesn't seem particularly helpful.
I rather think you will be disappointed with the 747 Classic when it comes out.

I'm sorry but FS9 needs to be dropped. As already stated most if not all developers have stopped support for FS9. By even thinking of using FS9 you are trying to use software that was designed for technology in PCs of 15+ years ago, Technology has come on leaps and bounds since. you would be severely limiting yourself.
The stability issues people state are simply from people messing around with the sim too much and causing conflicts. I very rarely get any issues with my P3Dv4. The Visuals are crisp and clear and use the full power of my PCs components and not only about 5% of it like FS9 would.
A quick example of what P3D can do here https://prnt.sc/mb9s66
I really don't see why people are seriously still considering FS9. if you would be planning on using online ATC such as VATSIM they are planning on dropping FS9 support as it is holding them back. People are moving on, don't get stuck in the past.

Oh, you saying already the 747 Classic isn’t going to be realistic? Guess it will be as bad as the cls one now then.
And I’ll have to update all on current forums as to JF’s view on the new release being a major disappointment.Already it’s a major concern you guys can’t even mention what PW is being modelled. Something tells me accuracy has gone out the window.
By the way, p3dud engine is based on a platform almost as old as fs9’s. Unfortunately it doesn’t look as good.
That screenshot above is not that Impressive. Average at best. My Fs9 looks much better then that.

And I’ll have to update all on current forums as to JF’s view on the new release being a major disappointment. No - it is the most complex and detailed aircraft JF has released to date and by 'to date' I am including all the aircraft we've published in the past such as 747 Ready For Pushback. However, from your posts it is fairly clear that you, personally, are going to be majorly disappointed, irrespective of how the product looks or behaves.
The CLS 747, in its day, was an excellent aircraft and still sells well on Steam. If you are happy with FS9 then that's great. The rest of us will stick with PBR in a 64-bit sim.
