What is P3D?
-
Hi all,
used to be into Flight Sims some years ago, then ran out of time to do anything with them, now dabbling again, and have questions, please don't be too harsh, not looked at this topic for many years. So if I get MS Flight Simulator 40th anniversary edition, what do I need to look for in here in relation to compatibility?
What is P3d V4/V5?
Many thanks in advance
Paul

@raceman P3D is shorthand for Prepar3d, it's a product by Lockheed-Martin that's derived from FSX. Some flight simmers swear by it, but it seems to be on the way out. It was never intended as a gaming platform, but lots of people pretended to be students and bought it as an alternative to FSX.
As far as compatibility, MSFS is its own thing, nothing on it is compatible with P3D or FSX, though a few developers have tried to port over old FSX add-ons, to my knowledge without much success.

@raceman Just MSFS, FSX is even older than P3D, MSFS is the replacement for FSX. Anything 40th Anniversary would be MSFS. To try to clear up some acronyms, FSX is shorthand for Microsoft Flight Simulator X (X as in 10), came out around 2004 or so. MSFS is Microsoft Flight Simulator, also known as FS2020, because it was released in 2020. But I think most people just call it MSFS now. Hope that helps.
If you get Microsoft Flight Simulator, a lot of the 40th Anniversary stuff is free, either included with the sim, or a free add-on in the Marketplace. I don't know if any of it is payware, but I can't swear it's all free.
