LOD in the Arrows
-
Hi there,
Firstly many thanks for the release of the Arrows to MSFS24, great to fly them again.
A quick Q re LOD and the Arrows. For some reason, not sure if the aircraft or the sim, it seems that when I am flying with a friend (both in Arrows) that we can only see each others aircraft when pretty close, like less than 50m. Other aircraft around we can see for quite a distance, i.e. from one end of a large airport to the other.
Just to clarify, can see the tags displayed but no physical aircraft is seen for the Arrows unless very close.
Many thanks for any thoughts on this.

Have you seen this in other planes? I've experimented a bit at several airports, with various planes, and with my Terrain LOD at 400 and Object LOD at 200, I slowly back away from other planes in drone cam or in avatar view, and most planes disappear when I'm still quite close -- sometimes as close as 55ft. It seems ludicrous, but it might be a sim limitation. Maybe there's something devs can do about it but probably only if they're aware of it.

I wish that was my experience, too!

The LODs of non-player PA-28s are currently set up to disappear at what we consider a reasonable distance away from the player. The aircraft needs to disappear at some point for performance reasons, but we appreciate that can be a subjective topic, and can sometimes vary from PC to PC.
At the moment, we are hesitant to update the LODs any further in our PA-28s as there are changes to how the LODs are handled by the MSFS 2024 coming in future Sim Updates. We will be keeping an eye on this though, and will provide any updates that are required.

I guess just a follow up on this. The F28 doesn't seem to suffer this issue. I know it is a larger aircraft but I can see my friends F28 at pretty decent distance so a very long final at the lowest LOD. The Arrows just vanish at a certain very close point and the pilot can be seen briefly before they also vanish. So watching my friend land in the Arrows I only see them literally in front of me. Very strange.

The PA28s are native MSFS 2024 products which take advantage of the MSFS 2024 LOD system. The F28 is not yet a native MSFS 2024 product, so it still uses the MSFS 2020 LOD system. Once we release the F28 native update (which is currently in development), it will then also take advantage of the MSFS 2024 LOD system.
