Climb rate

@t4murphy The optimum flight level for the F28 is FL280 - FL300 although the aircraft can fly at FL350 but flying at that flight level is uneconomical even with a low commercial load. Simply FL for F28 is max 30000ft (31000). Since the F28 is designed as a regional aircraft with a typical flight time of up to 90 minutes, flying at a level above FL300 is pointless.

@tupolevcz I was climbing to FL290 with less then full load KBWI to KBOS. The other issue is climb speed of 250 knots was unachievable. 165knots more like it. I tried IAS mode and the pitch mode. The pitch adjustment button is very finicky. Sometimes it works and I have to hold it awhile and then all hell breaks loose in a big uncontrollable pitch up or down . Otherwise I love this aircraft. Can't stop flying it and flying slant whiskey like in the old days is fun. I know I'm used to pmdg and other modern AC with all its power and automation. Is it normal to have the throttle pushed to the wall when climbing because anything less is not enough.

@papafox85 Flaps retracted and take trim set by clicking the cg% on the EFB. Even the lights are retracted at FL100. TTC set to climb. I know IAS climb is prefered but pitch mode should work but as stated earlier the response to the switch is touchy . Only done 3 flights so far. Been watching the tutorials which are great. I'll get it down sooner or later. Thanks for the response.

@t4murphy ok! I have somme difficulties to found the climb detent. By the way, is it the same that the takeoff detent?
That’s why I manually set the climb power to 96.5% N2. If I try to put throttle on detent (by earring noise), I am over limit temperature and % or to low.. -
@t4murphy My takeoff. Flaps 11, YD ON. Brakes 100% gradually set power to 98 - 100% LP TTC on TO , release breake. after takeoff, retract landing gear, flaps. I set TTC to CLB. After reaching 200 kt I turn on AP HDG mode and PITCH to let AP "catch" (plane pitches up/down slightly) then use PITCH to set speed to 250 kt and switch AP to IAS mode. After reaching 10000 ft I switch AP to PITCH again, reduce CLB rate to reach 270 kt then back to IAS mode. I climb to either 250/270 kt depending on weight of plane.
After reaching FL270 I use the PITCH mod and keep the climb rate at Mach 0.65 - 0.7. When I see the plane doesn't want to climb I reduce the rate to 240 kt (or 0,62 mach) but this has only happened about 3 times out of about 100 flights with the F28. It's an old school bird where there is no proper (optimal) performance according to the chart, you just have to actually drive the plane, play with it. Just Flight did a really perfect job. That's how I fly, but you may not be comfortable with it. -
@tupolevcz Thanks for that recommendation. I did another flight tonight and was able to manage better climb by paying careful attention to rate of climb and after getting pitch set where I was climbing at a good speed then I set IAS mode and was able to climb up to FL220 at a good rate of climb and speed. It was the 1000 model (Air Lingus) with 50 pasengers and 5800kg fuel for flight from EGSS to EGAA. Went great. Love this aircraft because you really have to manage your climb and thrust to get it to do what you want. Definitely a learning experience. Watched the tutorials and a flight by Q8 pilot. Thanks for everybodys input.

@tupolevcz
...3 out of about 100 flights....Have you flown this aircraft in the simulator a 100 times or are you a former F28 pilot?
If it's just in the simulator, that is a large amount of flying in a very short time. I tip my hat to you.... -
@lancealotg Unfortunately I'm not a real F28 pilot, so everything is only in MSFS 2020. It's a short flight aircraft so no problem IMHO to fly 100 flights most of them are under 90 minutes in length. But thank you very much.
