I am unable to get NAV 1 IDENT sound. I have tested this on the III, Turbo III and IV and it does not work.

My steps for NAV 1 - Does not work

    • Set the correct audio source to PHONE, in this case NAV 1 switch down.
    • COM 1 to ON
    • NAV 1 to IDENT
    • selected frequency 109.50 (valid at EGLL)
    • VOLUME fully up

My steps for NAV 2 - I hear the morse audio, it works.

    • Set the correct audio source to PHONE, in this case NAV 2 switch down.
    • COM 2 to ON
    • NAV 2 to IDENT
    • selected frequency 109.50 (valid at EGLL)
    • VOLUME fully up

Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

Interestingly I tried NAV 1 at EGLC on frequency 111.15 and it works. I am somewhat confused at this point.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi @tursonaki...

It is unfortunately a long standing issue. It has been posted here before as well so you are not alone 😉

The issue is apparently not with the Arrows, but rather the sim itself. You will find it mentioned in the official MS forums as well.

I remember having the issue at least with the native Cessna 152.

@superkaro2014 Thank you for taking the time to reply. I tested this once again with the Cessna 172 and I found it had similar issues. Just as you indicated this does now point to the simulator and not the planes.

This makes me suprised, sad and happy all at the same time. Certainly surprised that MS/Asobo clearly don't have this major sim functionality issue on their priority list, sad that this issue exists in the first place but really happy that it's not an issue with the Arrow.

The Arrow planes are genuinely awesome and detailed and great to fly.

Thanks again for your reply, have a great weekend.

Not a sim issue at all. There's a conflict in this plane with the DME. Change the freq on the DME and see what happens.. The NAV 1 will start working.

I stand corrected then - must give it a try...
It's good news in a way because then we are not waiting for Asobo :face_with_rolling_eyes:

It does happen on stock airplanes as well and it was discussed here and in the MS forum at length in the 'early' days.

@weptburrito Thanks for the information. I have reproduced the issue here and can confirm that it is tied to the set DME frequency. If I change this frequency from 108.00 to 109.00 I do hear the morse audio on NAV 1.

I also retested this in the Cessna 172 and could not get the morse audio on NAV 1. The Cessna doesn't have the DME but I am now wondering if behind the scenes in the simulator the default frequency for the DME setting is 108.00 and that this is preventing the morse audio from playing.

I have a way forward for now but I do hope they work this out at a soon future point.

Thanks again for the replies guys, it all helps.

Glad to see we're getting to the bottom of this issue.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the actual cause, though. I tried switching the DME from Nav1 to Nav2 and that did not magically make my audio appear, so I guess I'm not fully understanding the issue?

Part of this is also a sim issue. Not a bug type of issue, a missing variable issue. Example, the nav audio has 2 sound variables. NAV SOUND:1 and NAV SOUND:2. One for each radio. DME on the other hand only has DME SOUND. The DME in this plane is capable of using either the frequency dialed in on the nav 1 radio, or a second one you dial in on the DME itself. There's also not really any option for the DME to act on its own, the DME stuff is all tied into the nav radios.

Unfortunately the MSFS radio system is pretty limited (albeit not as much as FSX/P3D was) and a bit buggy.

I can confirm that although an independent NAV 3 is now possible, as used by the KN62 DME to allow for independent tuning from NAV 1/NAV 2 with FREQ mode selected, Asobo haven't given us a method for toggling the DME audio associated with NAV 3, only NAV1/NAV2. That means that you will need to tune the DME into either NAV 1 or NAV 2 and use the DME selector switch at the top of the right instrument panel to control which DME ident is heard when the KMA 20 DME switch is selected.

We think we've now fixed the issue with the NAV 1 ident not working.
