[solved, kinda] Performance issues in VR, anybody else?
-
I did not touch the Arrow for a couple of months, mainly because I was frustrated with its ground handling. When I try to fly the aircraft in VR now, I see a significant performance degradation compared to earlier in the year.
I can not put it in numbers or percentages, because I don't have a time machine to travel back to when the performance was fine, but I can provide a few clues:
I use graphics settings and resolutions which allow me to maintain a locked frame rate of 30 fps in most scenarios, even in urban areas with heavy clouds (relying on reprojection to get to 90 fps in the headset, obviously). These settings work fine with all the aircraft I fly, including the PMDG DC-6.
In the Arrow, I cannot reach 30 fps. Not even when sitting cold&dark, with legacy radios and GPS100, at a parking spot at an airport with sparse default scenery. Loading the DC-6 in the same spot under the same conditions, my system has no issues at all maintaining the locked framerate.
I tried to minimize "external" factors by disabling the GNS530 mod and the VR props mod. This didn't have any noticeable impact on the frame rates. I don't have the GTN750 or 650 installed.
I didn't have any performance issues when I used the Arrow extensively in May/June 2021 (v0.5.0 to v0.7.1). The problems might have started with v0.8.0, v0.9.0, or SU5, or they might be caused by some change in the graphics settings that the Arrow is especially sensitive to, I just don't know.
I'm interested to hear if this is a known issue, and if other users experience similar problems. Maybe there's a known workaround? If not, I'm gonna put her in the museum hangar and reminisce while flying other planes that work better for me.

@aurel On my system the Arrow III is performing incredibly well. I do not recognize any of the issues you describe. Did you try to uninstall and reinstall the plane? And did you check whether you have some old mods in the community folder, that could spoil your performance?

@harry_w Thanks for your response. To be honest, I expected and hoped that emptying the Community folder would not significantly affect the frame rates, because all the other planes work fine with my current selection of add-ons... but it did.
I guess that means I'm gonna spend the next couple of hours of precious "me time" trying to identify the add-ons with which the Arrow doesn't want to coexist.
*sigh*
Thanks, Bill Gates!

@harry_w Nope, the only mod I have that only affects the Arrow is a replacement for the prop animation. I use the "standard" Working Title Garmin upgrades, a UI modification (just changing the style and size of aircraft nameplates), a couple of realism mods for default aircraft (DA40-NGX, DA62X, JPL 152, HPG A5, WT CRJ), a handful of purchased aircraft, and the rest is scenery. Nothing fancy.
No idea what's going on, and so far the performance issues have not returned, in spite of adding more and more add-ons with every MFS restart. Fortunately, I recently discovered the "MSFS Addons Linker", which makes enabling/disabling add-ons rather painless.
