v1.05 Snags
-
Howdy all,
I know - me again. I'm super thankful to Martyn and the whole development team for the work they put into this version. I drew a rambling laundry list last time and it's cool to see a developer be so nimble and passionate about this aircraft.
I flew v1.05 today. First off - i'm having no luck with any ILS approach as noted in other threads. FD bars give wonky guidance, A/P turns away from the LOC course...etc. It looks like it is being looked into so won't talk about it any further on this thread.
After a bit of an explanation on the Pneumatic/Air issues i'll try to be more succinct.
Air/Pnuematics

Awesome to see the EGT rise with the APU Bleed demands working. Good job

The Not In Position Selected (NIPS) annunciations and system responses aren't accurate. I see where there was improvement in this area.

I'll explain things here with the Engine Air Valve but this applies to the Pack, and Recirc valves as well.
This is the engine air pressure regulating and shut-off valve (PRSOV). Note how the valve actuation and regulation is completely pneumatic - there is no electric motor driving the valve or anything like that. There is however a 28VDC solenoid that blocks air from the engine, allowing the bleed air flow to drive the shut-off head against spring pressure of the valve open, and allow pneumatic pressure into the regulating side of the valve, controlling flow and pressure.
What I want to highlight here is the tee off to the "Flow Indication Switch" - This is what drives the "Eng Air Valve" annunciation on the overhead panel. This switch closes with no pressure, opens with > 20 PSI air pressure.
The Eng Air Valve switch is a NIPS switch. If you don't have bleed air pressure coming from the engines, or very little (such as below 55-60% ish N2); AND, you have the Eng Air Switch selected to ON - you'll get the annunciation. Once you increase power, the annunciation will go out as bleed pressure is increased. As you reduce power, especially if you bring it way back in the descent - you'll get the same "Eng Air Valve" annunciation as there isn't enough pressure sensed at the Flow Indication Switch - if the Eng Air Switch is still selected on.
The opposite is true as well. If you select the switch off, and pressure is still sensed at the Flow Indication Switch, you will get the "Eng Air Valve" annunciation. You commonly see this momentarily as the Eng Air switch is turned off, with air still coming from the engines, as the valve slowly closes.
As noted above - this behaviour translates to the Pack, and Recirc valves as well. If you don't have any or insufficient air (ie: no APU or Eng air low/off) - and select this valves on - the 'Pack Valve' or 'Recirc Valve' annunciations will light until air flow is increased or the switch is selected back off.
In the sim right now, with engines running at idle - you can select the eng air switch on and nothing happens. As you increase power, you get the scripted brief annunciation as the valve 'opens'. You should be seeing the annunciation the whole time until the valve actually opens.
I wish I could describe this better - it's much easier to demonstrate in the airplane of course! I hope I nailed it down for you all! If any further questions feel free to get in touch!
The rest is more a quick list of issues and some questions from my first flight
Snags
- Engine Anti-ice "Intake Low Press" annunciations should extinguish as the engine starts. Once you cycle the engine anti ice off and back on the indication is correct in the sim.
This is assuming you're starting it with the Engine Anti-Ice switches on which was standard ops on the 146 to help unload the compressor. - 'popping/clicking' sound when scrolling various dials and knobs in the cockpit. It's like the sound sytem is trying to play a sound but can't quite?
- The Custom Sounds appear to only play sequentially? IE: If I quickly turn off all the engine air switches, I get the sounds slowly playing one after the other, even after the switches are all off.
- Cabin Temp or Duct Temp indications not influenced if APU Air is on.
- Engine TGT's are very low now throughout. It seems driving the temp down for the start simulation brought temps down all across all phases of operation. Before was frequently temp limited in the climb (which was realistic). Now I rarely see over 650*C???
- The AP oscillating pitch in cruise in level flight.
- Brake temps are way too low, and cool off way to quick. Should be seeing 180 - 200*C plus easy after landing, and it climbs quite quickly during the taxi usually to 75-100 degrees - depending on operator. Heavy braking not unusual to see up to 300+
- Galley Power constantly increases the load on generators - eventually just climbing and peaking at red line.
I hope again some of this info has been of note. I know i'm not the most eloquent at explaining things so any questions please let me know!!
Cheers,
Patrick

@plhought hallo....first things first...thanks for your very interesting post. Since it looks like you too are coming from the “real thing”, do you have any ( reliable..) source of data to get “-assumed temp” take off?...It is simply unbelievable that justFlightGuys provided us such a good add-on without taking into consideration one of the most important feature of the TMS😓😓😓 ( ass.temp Take off..)...unluckily, last time I flew the real “Quiet Trader” was 1999 and I’ve lost of the manuals/TakeOff Data/Runway Analysis I used back then. Thanks much
Cheers,

@Mistral2000 I'd have to dig as it's been 7-8 years since where I worked operated the 146-200. We only have Avro RJ's now.

@plhought thanks , if you’ll ever find any kind of material regarding “Ass Temp “ Take off I think it would be extremely useful for us as customers...but , most of all, for the Developers Team ( As I’ve told you I’ve tried to explain them the subject...but, frankly (according to their extremely vague answers..) Runway Perf Tables/Runway Analisys/Flex T/O etcetc...looked quite a “tabu”😥😥😥.

The issue we'll always have with providing performance information is copyright as they are usually provided by the manufacturers and/or airlines, and are something that you struggle to avoid simply reproducing as-is. We will try though.

@Martyn thanx for your answer Martyn....I hope we’ll get something more in the near future.
Claudio
p.s: other developers ( majestic software for example...) has made their performance EFB as an external tool ...if a customer consider it useful...he/she simply can decide to buy it or not...
