Retro AI Traffic product

Considering JustFlight's apparent affinity for golden age jets, is there a possibility we could ever see a retro AI package containing either representative flights or actual historical flights listed in OAG books from the past? It does feel just a little odd flying a Tristar or VC-10 while surrounded by 787s and A350s. There is a niche community I am a part of that does exactly that, but I feel that if a mainstream company creates a product related to it, it could have a surge in popularity. Personally, I feel that using Traffic Global's software, and the obtaining of OAG books, from anywhere from the 60s to the 90s could result in a great product that a lot of people would be interested in, myself included.

@Noob21 We did look at that with Traffic 2005 and Traffic X but it was a non-starter. Huge amount of work to create the package and then what period do you choose? 1950s, 60s and 70s were all different - plus, of course, the airports would all look 'wrong'.
It's one of those things probably best served by freeware TBH.

Using Traffic X or Traffic 360, you could have achieved (if I understand correctly) what is being asked by eliminating all of the more modern aircraft from the aircraft listings within those programs. I am not sure if you could do this with Traffic Global though as I believe the aircraft database is too closely tied in with the schedules - which are based on current 'real-life' schedules. The built-in 'dates-of-operation' in TX and T360 are a bit awkward to use and I suspect did not get used very much.
Once the 787's, etc. are taken out, the programs would generate all of the schedules with only the 'older' aircraft. The airport layouts would be left to the used to decide whether to use the supplied layouts or look for older versions.
Not easy but do-able. But, of course, TX and T360 are no longer available?Long time user of Traffic X.

The schedules is the (relatively) easy bit. You'd need the aircraft, liveries etc and you'd also need to decide on the timeframe. As I say, period traffic was originally a feature that could have been enabled in T2005 and TX, but the ROI simply wasn't there.

I agree with what you say but there are loads of 'vintage' aircraft available to users - both payware and freeware. I cannot speak for TG but in TX and T360 it is easy to add any extra aircraft and then create/modify schedules to include any that have been added.
I still find that I am adding extra aircraft to my TX every month when I come across something that takes my interest.
Would this be a similarly easy task in TG?Long time user of Traffic X.

Certainly possible. You can add extra aircraft and flight plans at the moment. There isn’t a seamless way of doing it automatically yet though. You can do a lot of it through the app, but there would still be a couple of steps like adding the aircraft files to the right folders and that sort of thing.

Sorry to necro this topic, but I wanted to re-pitch this idea and I didn’t think making a similar thread was the best idea. But I was hoping I could invigorate more interest in this idea. In particular, I’m getting my hands on some winter 1979/1980 world timetables, and I would be willing to donate that information to just flight if there would be a concerted effort to make an expansion for the traffic addon based around that. Now I would fully expect it to probably cost as much as the base package, as you’d be creating all new aircraft models and liveries, but I really do feel like it’s a niche that should be filled. I just think some people would think twice about flying a 747-200 in a living world of A350s and 787s if they were given the option to fly in a bit more period correct feeling of a world.

We did try this years ago and there was little interest. Flight plans/timetables are the easy part. The task of creating the aircraft and liveries would be identical to creating a modern traffic program - and if the popularity was similar to that for vintage commercial aircraft it would be a financial disaster. As I mentioned above, there is also the issue of making the traffic 'perform' in a realistic way at modern airports. Seeing a Constellation (or an HP42) land at Stansted or Chek Lap Kok would be interesting, but I suspect the novelty would soon wear off.

I am sure if there was a possibility of doing this, someone other than ourselves would have looked at it by now.@derek well, my intention was not for a wide spanning pack for several decades(in fact there already is an extensive freeware pack with those inclined towards the 50s/60s), but just one based purely off the 1979/1980 timetables provided. It seems like it would be more easy to implement considering air travel hasn’t changed as much between now and then as opposed to now and back in the 50s. And the 80s are something everyone can appreciate, so I don’t feel like it would be as prohibitive as older airliners. If JF can find it economically viable to produce the 747 classic and A300-200, I can’t imagine that an old traffic pack to fit the mood would be too bad. That said, I can understand the apprehension, I just wanted to get it out there that I would be happy to provide some useful resources, and if for whatever reason JustFlight finds a reason to do this, I would be happy to work on the team to help gather necessary resources free of charge.
