Fuel planning
-
Hi,
I wonder how do you guys do the fuel planning before the flight?
Since I use Neofly it's really important on how much weight I can take. Couple of times I ran out of fuel and had to ditch in the field. I looked up at simbrief but there is no Arrow profile.
Is there a comfortable way of calculating fuel consumption? Thanks

The POH gives you this information. Depending on your cruise power setting the Arrow would use somewhere between 8.5 and 12.7 GPH
To properly plan your fuel, you would decide on what cruise power setting you want to use (trade off between speed and fuel consumption - 65% power is usually a good compromise and I like to run LOP, or best economy mixture). You can then look up the fuel consumption for that power setting.
You would also need to check the performance at that power setting and at your selected cruise altitude to see how fast you're going to go (and therefore how long it will take you) so you can multiply fuel consumption by time to get your cruise fuel burn.
The POH also has fuel burn for the climb and descent, and charts to calculate how long the climb and descent should take.
Don't forget to add taxi fuel, as well as fixed and variable reserves!
Also it is advisable to monitor your fuel level during the flight and if you become aware that you may no longer have enough to land with your fixed reserve you should find an alternate airfield to land at instead of running out of fuel and having a forced landing!

Hi, thank you for this info. Seems like a lot of calculating, I will give it a try though :) Thanks a lot
