<![CDATA[Open Window at take off]]>Hello! Been having a lot of fun with the new Commanders, but ran into an interesting reaction yesterday.

Cockpit temp is very warm (100F) so I open the vents and the pilot window to help cool things down. Finish preflight, taxi into position, wind things up and start rolling down the runway.

I reach speed and begin rotation. I will get maybe 15-20 ft off the ground and MSFS24 tells me I crashed! After several tries watching all my gauges for something going awry. All looks normal. After a few of this, I realized the issue - the pilot window flap was still open.

Now, I don’t have real world experience with the Commander, but I wouldn’t think an open flap on an unpressurized cockpit at essentially ground level would cause the plane to blow up.

Am I wrong?

Thanks in advance for any tips or guidance. And it’s okay to tell me I’m an idiot - my wife reminds daily…. 😉

Why does the aircraft crash if I open the cockpit window?

Turn off “Aircraft Stress Damage” in the MSFS realism settings menu. This is the case for almost every addon aircraft with opening doors. The simulator interprets an open door as a catastrophic failure of the airframe. Unfortunately, the door states are also used to control sound insulation in the cabin, so they cannot be easily ignored by the developer.
