I usually rely on the aircraft instruments, but sometimes I check my direction with an online compass as a simple reference. An online compass is a digital navigation tool that uses a device’s GPS location and sensors to show the current direction and heading. It works as a real-time direction tool that helps users understand which way they are facing or moving. I know it is not designed for aircraft navigation, but it is useful for comparing general directions outside the simulator.

With the Duchess Model 76, I am wondering if the compass behavior I am seeing is normal. For example, after setting a heading and flying for a while, the aircraft compass, heading indicator, and outside direction reference do not always appear perfectly aligned.

Is this usually caused by magnetic variation, simulator settings, or the way the Duchess Model 76 instruments are simulated in X-Plane? Should the heading indicator and magnetic compass always match exactly, or are small differences expected like in a real aircraft?

I have also noticed that depending on the flight conditions, the difference seems more noticeable. I am not sure if this is related to aircraft configuration, weather settings, or something else inside X-Plane.
