@retiredman93231 I have found that when doing a "Runway" start, if you wait until ATC has completed giving you your full takeoff clearance before pressing "Ready to Fly" the engine and hydraulic systems will have had enough time to fully stabilize.

  • AHRS PUSH TO SYNC + RMB powers off HSI and AI

@martyn said in AHRS PUSH TO SYNC + RMB powers off HSI and AI:

"In the slaved and DG modes the HSI and the main attitude indicator power failure warning flags are displayed while the PUSH TO SYNC control is pressed."

Aha, so that's how it is supposed to work. In the Lock interaction mode nothing happens if you just press with LMB, with LMB+RMB it actually presses the button (hence the flags) and with LMB+MMB you release the button. A bit quirky, but it works. Thanks for the explanation!

For people who are struggling with the Lock interaction mode (like me):
LMB: Lock to the control. Move mouse pointer to operate the rotary (i.e. change heading).
    LMB+RMB: Push the button.
    LMB+MMB: Release the button.

@b3lt3r Agree. I've started doing most of my directional control below 50-60 kts with the brakes (and rudder trim) and it works a lot better than when I tried to use the rudder. Sounds like we're using the same landing technique too, I just wish it worked on taildraggers where even gentle brake applications tend to leave you staring at the ground through a "you crashed" message :)

@bbcm Hi Bob. The first update has not yet been released but should be available this coming week. The drop tanks can then be selected from the EFB payload section.

I am now much better able to manage take-off and landing after spending a serious amount of time tweaking sensitivities on the rudder and (critically) toe-brakes. It's now at the point where things are not too mortifying...

I have the following observations remaining (I stress this is ME so probably my flying):

On take-off the rudder is only beginning to become really effective just before 90kts so any attempt to switch to that when the toe brakes have been used to stay straight actually introduces instability so I find it best to ignore

When in a simple straight line taxi at very low speeds, I find the aircraft will veer from the centreline without compensating constantly with rudder (steering). The deviation is pronounced and I wonder how sensitive the real aircraft is to wind? My tests were done with an 8kt 90 deg crosswind which doesn't seem extreme.

When I switch wind off I can taxi and take-off with zero directional inputs. I would expect deviation on take-off as speed is so much higher, but it's purely the scale seems quite large.

Still spending inordinate amounts of time in this and generating a lot of smiling :-)

@martyn Found the issue with the Thrustmaster TPR pedals
causing me to veer from side to side when taxiing.
The standard configuration (a single axis) works with other planes but not with the Hawk. You have to add separate rudder axis for left and right. Since it was working otherwise it took a while before I thought of this. Thanks.
